THE ADOPT-A-SENIOR PROGRAM was designed to help supplement seniors nutritional needs so they are not faced with the difficult decision of having to choose between buying food or other life sustaining necessities, such as medicines, rent, or utilities.

The program helps seniors who are living at or below the poverty level to better afford more of lifexs basic necessities by providing them with a large box of food every month for one year. With more food in the household, seniors do not have to skip meals, they experience improved nutrition, and can stretch their budgets by saving money on food costs; thereby enabling them to spend the savings on other necessities.

Seniors who qualify for this program must be at least 60 years old, and meet the USDA poverty guidelines. (Click here to see USDA income guidelines.)

You can help us help seniors throughout northeast Louisiana who depend on this program by making a contribution. Your donation helps to defray some of the cost of the program. We rely on grant monies, United Way funding, donations from the community, and funds from other sources to sustain the Adopt-A-Senior program.

This program consumes about 600,000 pounds of food each year and we currently are serving over 1,400 seniors each and every month. We depend on hundreds of volunteers who provide thousands of man-hours each year to pack boxes, man distribution sites, transport food to outlying parishes, and deliver boxes to home bound seniors. You can support this program by donating resources or volunteering your time.
